Engulf me with darkness
Light is so overrated no? Plethora of words written, spoken, discussed about how wonderful light is and how it is essential for life itself and how it will be impossible for life to blossom without light and so on and so forth. Yeah ok, fine! Go on harping over it, but at some point you will realize that darkness is indispensable.
Let me throw some light (stupid pun) on what exactly I mean. Picture this - You have had a very busy day at office: Client meetings, presentations, team brainstorming sessions; everything so demanding, so tough and exhausting! All eyes on you while you speak, with so many questions (some of them you don't have answers to) thrown at you, with an expectation that you do everything right, each time! You do have your error margins, but believe me, that is just a load of crap! You are being judged and judged big time. Every time you fumble, lose context, are unaware of stuff, it will be highlighted and remembered for a long time. So much pressure!
And now picture this: You are home from work, exhausted. You fling your bag on the sofa and slump next to it. The silence and the darkness is eery, but for once, you feel that's all that you need right now. You gaze from the window and ponder over the events of the day, think about what went wrong and what happened exactly as planned. There begins the conversation that you have been wanting to have with yourself for such a long time. That one event last week that you loved to the hilt, followed by a disturbing memory of something that you would rather forget. That thing that you wanted to say to her, or you wished she said to you! The determined thought of hitting the gym again or the fleeting thought of the party you wanted to go to. It's all intertwined and filled with a certain duality, but nevertheless, you like to dwell in it, because it's something that you wanted to talk to yourself about so badly! It seems perfect because it is uninhibited, judgement-free and limitless.
Darkness, I believe, gives you time to slow down, evaluate, analyze, figure out a plan and find answers for all the difficult questions life throws at you. It is like that magical potion that you engulf and get the strength to take things head on. Sit back and hum that favourite song of yours, think about that girl you used to like (!), flip through some cherished memories of someone that you have lost or ponder about that one change in your life that you have been dying to make. A zillion things that you can do in 'your own' time. And believe me, it is so therapeutic. Soothing and calming.
Darkness is extremely liberating. You lose inhibitions and gain insights. You focus away from the exigencies and tune into the idyllic! You can feign in light, but darkness has the ability to bring you back to the very truth. They say, you need light to see things clearly. But I feel, some darkness is essential to see things in the right light! Nycophilia works for me, go check if it does for you!
